Nigerians Demand NFF Accountability Over FIFA and CAF Fund Mismanagement

Public outrage in Nigeria has intensified following football critic Chinedu Mobike’s @c_mobike, viral video, which accuses the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of misusing millions in funds received from FIFA and CAF since 2014.

Mobike’s claims have reignited long-standing frustrations about corruption and lack of transparency in Nigerian football management.

In the viral clip, he highlights how despite years of funding, there’s little or no visible progress in infrastructure, youth development, or talent growth across the nation’s leagues. His video has since sparked over 364,000 social media engagements, with hashtags like #NFFAccountability, #FixNigerianFootball, and #WhereIsTheMoney trending across X (Twitter) and Facebook.

The NFF swiftly released a statement claiming that all funds received from FIFA and CAF are “for specific purposes” and “audited annually.”
However, many Nigerians see this as another round of deflection.

Critics point to the Birin Kebbi Mini Stadium, reportedly constructed with $1.2 million, as a glaring example of inefficiency — a project that stands as a symbol of underperformance and questionable expenditure. see picture of below

Beyond infrastructure, Nigerians are also questioning why no Nigerian referee has officiated at the AFCON tournament since 2006 — a 19-year absence blamed on inadequate VAR training in the domestic league.
If millions are being invested in “football development,” then why do these foundational gaps still exist?

This has amplified calls for a forensic investigation into all NFF financial dealings since 2014, with many demanding public disclosure of:
✔️ Total funds received from FIFA and CAF
✔️ Expenditures per fiscal year
✔️ Project outcomes and beneficiaries

Football is not just sport in Nigeria — it’s identity, unity, and national pride.
Every misused fund means another stadium not built, another child denied opportunity, another dream wasted.

If Nigeria wants to restore its football glory, transparency and reform are non-negotiable.
The era of excuses is over — Nigerians are awake, and the call for accountability is louder than ever.
